What is the difference between
Covid-19 Rapid test and PCR test?

Testing for COVID-19 has tremendous value when it comes to trying to limit the spread of the COVID virus

ANTIGEN TEST

(frequently referred to as a rapid test). This COVID 19 test detects certain proteins in the virus. Using a long nasal swab to get a fluid sample, some antigen tests can produce results in minutes. Others may be sent to a lab for analysis. A positive antigen test result is considered 70-80% accurate when instructions are carefully followed, but there’s an increased chance of false-negative results — meaning it’s possible to be infected with the virus but have a negative result. Depending on the situation, the doctor may recommend a PCR test to confirm a negative antigen test result.

PCR TESTING

PCR testing is considered the “gold standard” in SARS-CoV-2 detection because PCR test are 99.7% accurate. This test actually detects RNA (or genetic material) that is specific to the virus and can detect the virus within days of infection, even those who have no symptoms. The turnaround time is longer, generally it’s 10-24 hours, but we can provide results as fast as in 10 hours with our Rapid PCR Test.
